The Black Fountain reflects back to the days before digital delay, emulating the sounds of the famed and elusive "oil can delay" units. These units emphasized a chorus-like modulation on the repeats of the effect signal as well as a beautiful and warm repeat cycle.

The Modern mode emulates the classic long delay "oil can" units such as the Morley EDL, Tel-Ray Model 10 and Fender Echo-Reverb. The Time and Repeat controls mimic the functions of the vintage units, while the Fluid control introduces modulation based on the characteristic "wobble" of the electrostatic delay platter. The Vintage mode is similar in function to the Modern mode, but has a grittier and gainier feel to the repeats. Both the Modern and Vintage mode have a delay time of 800 milliseconds.

The Organ Tone mode is based on the Tel-Ray Deluxe Organ Tone, Fender Dimension IV and other short-delay "oil can" units. The vintage units had a fixed delay time of approximately 20 milliseconds, which is implemented here, but the Black Fountain goes above and beyond the original units by incorporating variable Rate and Depth controls for the modulation effect. In addition, the Mix control is capable of dialing a 100% wet signal so a vibrato effect may be produced. The Organ Tone mode also features a simple reverb the mimics the single-spring tank in the original Deluxe Organ Tone effect. The Organ Tone mode has a delay time of 211 milliseconds.

A handmade point to point clone of an early Vox AC30, handcrafted in Doncaster by Steve Giles.

This is the most celebrated version of the legendary Jennings Musical Industries amplifier, with features based on a 1961/62 design.

The combo features the classic design using brown grillecloth, black tolex covering (beige/fawn option also available), leather strap-type handles and two 12” Alnico Blue speakers.

The amp’s chassis includes the traditional red JMI control panel, point-to-point wired circuitry, three channels and six inputs (Vib/Trem, Normal, Brilliant), with an option of the classic Top Boost add-on circuit.

In the range of generally available fuzz boxes covering a scale from 1 through 10, this one goes to 15 ! Specifically designed to simulate “Imminent Amp Death” this custom built unit features several separate stages so that the user may tune it to his or her own degree of ‘I.A.D.'.

The first stage is a Linear DRIVE with up to +26dB of gain feeding the second stage; a stabilized discrete preamp which overloads smoothly when overdriven. The third stage is where the NG-3™ magic takes place; it simulates a tube amp that has been over or under biased or has suffered serious tube or output transformer failure (The sound just before the fuse blows). The SUSTAIN control adjusts the signal level into the third section and can be adjusted from ‘Tired Output Tubes’ to ‘Melted Tubes and Shorted Output Transformer’.

NG-3™ Variable BIAS Control: Class A setting is with BIAS fully clockwise; Class B is approximately 12 o'clock and Class C fully anti-clockwise. Intermediate settings may be found to offer enhanced tone colours to suit the material being played.

Technical explanation: The audio signal level, which is dependent on the settings of Drive and Sustain, is compared to the amount of Bias set and my Vari-Class amplifier stage permits either the whole signal to pass (Class A) or varying amounts (Class B or C).

Class-A amplifiers are biased to conduct over the whole of the input cycle and produce the lowest distortion. Class-B amplifiers are biased to amplify 50% of the input signal and consequently create more distortion than Class A. Class-C amplifiers are biased to conduct less than 50% of the input signal and the distortion at the output is higher than either Class A or Class B. Only the peaks of the signal will be passed on to the next stage when the BIAS is set to Class C.

TONE and VOLUME controls complete the ensemble to allow matching to your bypassed signal level. To glory in the sound of this pedal feed it into an amp capable of delivering huge amounts of clean, pure tone into your speakers.

Easy battery replacement via ‘drawer’. The battery is switched on when you insert the “INPUT / PWR ON” jack and to ensure long battery life unplug this lead when the unit is not in use. If the unit is not to be used for a long length of time we recommend that you remove the battery. Preferred battery type is MN1604.

Also fitted is an input for a DC adapter: the size of the coax connector is 5.5/2.1mm and the centre pin is negative (-VE). The adapter should be noise free, fully stabilised at 9V DC and capable of supplying 20mA. When multiple effects pedals are to be powered, we recommend the use of the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus adapter as meeting the above criteria and cannot accept any liability for damage caused to this unit by the use of, or to, any other type of DC adaptor. If only a single unit is to be powered the BOSS PSA series may be more cost effective and is also recommended.

The Los Angeles Square Face is our head nod to the most beloved/famous patron of L.A.’s Rainbow Room by way of the classic Diaz Texas Square Face made by Cesar Diaz; guitar player and tech to the stars. As you might have guessed, the Texas Square Face was based on the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face but used a different brand and style of transistors, had a bit more output volume, and was housed in a smaller square shaped enclosure. Stevie Ray Vaughn was known for using one which is half the reason they command such high prices today, but also because they sound really darn good with a Strat.

The BLAMMO! version is similar to the original but not exactly the same. We swapped out the clicky 3PDT style footswitch for a much quieter relay based soft switching system set up in true bypass fashion. The power filtering has been beefed up a bit to help hush and smooth out some of the background hiss and we’ve moved the jacks from the side to the top of the enclosure to help save space on your pedalboard. As for similarities, all the capacitor values are the same and the NTE103 germanium transistors for the red version are too, though they are newly manufactured instead of being new-old-stock, which in this case is a good thing because the new versions have a much higher gain (between 400 – 650 hfe) resulting in a rattier, blown out voicing. Kinda splatty and gated compared to that classic smooth woolly sound the FF and its counterparts are known for. A quality I think any Motorhead fan would approve of. But if you’re more into that vintage sound, the blue version that uses BC108b silicon transistors might be more your thing. True, they are higher gain than the ones used in a standard Fuzz Face (250-400hfe instead of the 80-110hfe range), but in this case the sound is still very familiar. It even responds the same when dialing back on the guitars volume knob but the overall tone has a bit more crunch to it when everything is dimed. And think of the Hybrid as mix between the two that leans more toward the silicon side in terms of function and sound.
