Fantastic piece of equipment making a musicians life much easier
I originally bought this product to have something to play around with and create demo tracks while away at college (It's a bit difficult to continue writing and recording away). Immediately, the Boss BR-600 proved itself as not only a quality digital recorder, but also as a fine piece of hardware with an immense amount of customizable effects. Being able to plug directly into the boss with quarter inch cables makes for a clean guitar and bass sound which doesn't rely on a secondary sound source from a microphone up to an amplifier, though still possible (I understand some people prefer this route, no worries). Countless adjustable effects make your guitar or bass alone almost limitless. An 1/8 inch auxiliary input allows you to play and record sound through a computer, phone, or most importantly in my case, an MIDI controller. The sound output is a 1/4 inch jack to be used for amplifiers or studio monitor headphones which I also like because it allows me to play and record silently without bothering my roommates. Though I don't use the drum machine often, the velocity sensitive drum pads sound great. If you're not too interested in producing beats like that, preset drum beats are programmed into the Boss and are all adjustable to tempo, verse, chorus, fill, etc... which makes for a lot of options. Exporting files onto a computer is extremely simple. Editing and other cutting or deleting options are also possible to use on your recorded tracks. All of this and much more make the BR-600 a great toy to play around with and record some fairly quality material with.
I've read a couple of reviews describing the Boss BR-600 as being not quite user friendly and difficult to use. I disagree completely. No offense to anyone who feels this way, but I would consider that idealism to be pretty impatient and slightly ignorant. The BR-600 needs to be understood for what it is. It is a piece of hardware programmed to do what has never really been possible before within such a compact device. Think of it as a new program on a computer. You have to take the time, sit down, and learn the capabilities and operation systems of the digital recorder. Why spend the money on something if you have no interest or patience to tap into its full potential? There are plenty of YouTube videos and online articles that are extremely helpful in guiding a user in learning how to operate the Boss BR-600, use them! Even I'm still learning something new about it almost every day!
