Great beginner solid body guitar

Having picked up the acoustic guitar again at 39 after a 25 year hiatus, I was ready to dip my toes back in to rock'n'roll and bought one of these bad boys for my 40th birthday. Only about A$750 including case.

I'll be the first to admit - I didn't buy this for sound quality, but for looks. I love Angus Young and AC/DC so this was the closest thing to Angus I could get without spending $$$$.

The G-400 Pro - or SG Pro as it says on the headstock - is a nice little unit that you can really thrash out some good tunes with. I use it with a Fender Mustang GT-40 digital practice amp, so I am not pushing the envelope with sounds. But it can certainly rock out those hard rock sounds. The dual humbucker pick ups are nice, if uncomplicated units, and the split coil affect is a nice-to-have.

One issue I have had with it is that early on the G-String would keep pulling out of tune, or playing out of tune. There was a real twang to the sharp side of the note and it rang out above all else.

It's not totally gone, but I have see it get better. This guitar was made in China and I bought it from store and plugged it straight it, no mods or anything. I tried a Epiphone Dot this week and interestingly that had the same issue.

Mine is improving - the music shop owner recommended a few little fixes like graphite on the nut etc - and overall it's a delight to play good hard rock'n'roll and blues.
