Effects Pedals used by Tom Scholz on Boston
This unique effects pedal can be heard on every Boston album. It was homemade by Tom from a heavily modified Echoplex. The sounds produced from it are referred to by Tom in early Boston album liner notes as "special effects guitar" and can be heard in top form on a number of tracks from the orginal "Boston" (1976) and "Don't Look Back" (1978).
From NOVA "Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers" interview (Tom Scholz): "I had to build devices to create certain sounds that I was looking for. My favorite device, is the Hyperspace Pedal as I call it. There's only two in existence, I built them a long long time ago. As I became more adept at using them, I was able to create all those out-of-this-world sounds that people are used to hearing on Boston albums, but haven't heard before, most likely."
