It's all over Hardwired to Self Destruct. And it's really funny because when we started doing tracks for that I thought, you know, I know Greeny sounds great, but is it just me or what? So what we did is we got this one track and I played four different guitars, basically my best four sounding guitars and Greeny, and we did the Pepsi challenge. We did a blind test, and we trucked in four different people, and I picked out Greeny every single time, and so did everyone else, as the best sound.

Cymbals used by Lars Ulrich on Hardwired…To Self-Destruct

Hi-hat Cymbals

Sabian HH 15'' Rock Hats

Lars Ulrich has been known to prefer Sabian HH 15'' Rock Hats, particularly evident in the "Making of 'Atlas, Rise!'" video by Metallica on YouTube. He initially began using these hi-hats during the "And Justice for All" era, prominently featuring them in the "Black Album" sessions. Although he switched to Zildjian Z Custom 14'' Dyno-Beat Hats for "Death Magnetic," he returned to the Sabian 15'' hi-hats for "Hardwired... to Self-Destruct" in 2015-16. Notably, this period also marked his first use of Zildjian K cymbals as his primary crashes.

Crash Cymbals

Zildjian K zildjian 17, 18 & 19'' Thin Crashes

For the recording of their last album, HTSD, Lars used exclusively Dark cymbals. He used traditional Zildjian K's (Dark) 17, 18 & 19 '' Thin Crashes. Moreover, his Hi-Hats (Sabian HH) and China (Zildjian Oriental) are too. He has kept his Zildjian A Custom 19 '' Projection for Crash / Riding Mode and a 17 '' Medium-Thin for his need to have a Bright accent.
