I've owned a Juno-60 since the mid 90s so its hard to be objective, but it was my first analogue poly, so holds a sentimental place in my heart. Regarding its sound and capabilities this is subjective. It makes nice 'warm/muffled' analogues sounds especially compared to a more 'brittle' sounding Jupiter 6 - but its much more sonically limited than a Jupiter 6. The HPF is 5 stage, stepped rather than smooth (like the 0+/- lock/click on Technics 1210/1200s Im guessing this could be altered nowadays though?), and theres only 1 LFO and no sync. Q: Would I buy another if mine died or got stolen? Yeah, though Im not sure that todays prices warrant its requirement compared to the latest glut of new analogue polys.
Great synth with lots of routing and sound creation capabilities. I love that these older synths dont add any (or very limited) onboard effects as this allows the waveforms to shine, before a layer of polish (effects) are added on top.
If you're used to 'warmer' sounding vintage polys/monos then this one takes a bit of getting used to. Stop trying to think of it in similar terms to, say, a Prophet 5 or a Juno 6... as it wont help you. Instead think of it as a totally different manufacturer, let alone synth category. Truly gritty/harsh sounds can be had out of this thing due to the LFO rates and other tweaks. Plus it has that rare, synth ability to think youve actually killed its internal chips with your knob-twiddling. Scary fun. I hated it at first, then fell in love. So much that I even own an MKS-80 also.
