About

Acoustic Alchemy is a pioneering British musical group celebrated for their innovative fusion of jazz, classical, flamenco, and new age genres. Formed in London in 1981, the group originally featured guitarists Nick Webb and Simon James, with Webb later teaming up with Greg Carmichael. Following Webb's passing in 1998, Carmichael continued the group's legacy alongside Miles Gilderdale. Acoustic Alchemy is renowned for their sophisticated instrumental sound and has achieved significant acclaim with albums like Reference Point, Against the Grain, and 33 1/3, which consistently charted on Billboard's jazz lists.

How to Sound Like Acoustic Alchemy

Achieving the sound of Acoustic Alchemy involves a blend of warm, melodic guitar tones and intricate acoustic arrangements. Their music is characterized by the use of nylon-string and steel-string guitars, which provide both a rich harmonic palette and rhythmic complexity. The interplay between guitars is often layered with soft, ambient textures, incorporating elements of flamenco and classical guitar techniques. The group's sound is further enriched with light percussion and bass, which contribute to a smooth and flowing rhythmic foundation. To capture their style, focus on acoustic and classical guitars paired with subtle reverb and delay effects that enhance the spatial qualities of their music, alongside dynamic fingerpicking and strumming patterns that highlight their jazz and new age roots.
