About

Agression is a seminal skatepunk band hailing from Oxnard, California, a region famously known as the birthplace of the "Nardcore" sound. Formed in the early 1980s, the group consisted of Mark Hickey (vocals), Henry Knowles (guitar), Bob Clark (bass), and Mark Aber (drums). Agression was part of the first wave of skatepunk bands, blending the raw energy and simplicity of punk with the rapid tempos of hardcore. Their music captured the spirit of rebellion and youthful angst, embodying the cultural convergence of skateboarding and punk rock in Southern California.

How to Sound Like Agression

Agression's sound is defined by its fast-paced, aggressive guitar riffs and driving rhythms, a hallmark of the skatepunk genre. Their music is characterized by its raw, unpolished edge, often employing distorted guitar tones and fast, pounding drum patterns. To capture the essence of their sound, musicians might focus on using high-gain amplifiers and overdrive pedals to achieve a gritty, powerful tone. The bass lines are typically tight and punchy, complementing the frenetic energy of the guitars and providing a strong rhythmic foundation. In terms of production, Agression's recordings maintain a live, energetic feel, emphasizing clarity and immediacy over polished studio sheen, which can be achieved through minimal effects and a focus on capturing the dynamism of live performances.
