Apocalyptica is a Finnish metal band that uniquely blends elements of symphonic metal, alternative metal, and instrumental music with classical influences. Formed in 1993 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the group originally consisted of Eicca Toppinen, Perttu Kivilaakso, and Paavo Lötjönen, all classically-trained cellists. They later expanded their lineup to include Mikko Sirén (drums), adding a percussive edge to their sound.
