About
Atlanta Rhythm Section is a Southern rock band originating from Doraville, Georgia, that seamlessly blends elements of rock, pop, blues rock, and country rock. Formed in 1970, the group's origins trace back to the remnants of two bands—The Candymen and The Classics Four—coming together as the house band for Studio One. Notable members have included Rodney Justo (vocals), Barry Bailey (guitar), Paul Goddard (bass), Dean Daughtry (keyboards), and Robert Nix (drums). With their roots in Southern rock, they have carved out a niche with a sound often compared to Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers, achieving commercial success in the late '70s with hits like "So Into You" and "Imaginary Lover."
How to Sound Like Atlanta Rhythm Section
Atlanta Rhythm Section's sound is characterized by its melodic and polished rock tones, which are both radio-friendly and richly textured. Their music features clean, articulate guitar lines and smooth, soulful vocals, underpinned by the rhythmic groove of bass and drums with a subtle Southern flair. Barry Bailey's guitar work often relies on a harmonious use of effects that create a warm, inviting sound, while Paul Goddard's bass lines, using the Rickenbacker 4003 and Fender Precision Bass, provide a solid, melodic foundation. The band's arrangements are rounded out by Dean Daughtry's lush keyboard textures, contributing to a sound that balances between classic rock energy and soft rock elegance. This blend of elements results in music that's both dynamic and accessible, appealing to a wide range of rock aficionados.
