About

Beastmilk was a Finnish post-punk band renowned for their dark, atmospheric sound that blended elements of gothic rock, deathrock, and cold wave. Formed in Helsinki in 2010, the group originally consisted of Kvohst (Mat McNerney) on vocals, Goatspeed (Mikko Mäki) on guitar, Arino (Mikko Pöyhönen) on bass, and Paile (Joonas Pykälä-aho) on drums. Their music drew comparisons to the haunting intensity of Joy Division and the raw edge of early Bauhaus, captivating audiences with their brooding yet energetic compositions.

How to Sound Like Beastmilk

Beastmilk's sound is characterized by its dark, melodic undertones and driving rhythms, creating an atmosphere that is both intense and immersive. Their music features distorted, yet clear guitar lines often achieved through the use of amplifiers like the Fender Blues Deville 4x10 to shape their powerful yet haunting tones. The combination of pulsating bass lines and dynamic drumming lays a solid foundation for the ethereal, yet commanding vocals of Kvohst. This sonic blend is both aggressive and lush, providing an evocative backdrop that captures the essence of their gothic and post-punk influences.
