About
Black 'N Blue is an American hard rock band that emerged from Portland, Oregon in the early 1980s. Known for their energetic mix of glam metal and arena rock, the group consists of Jaime St. James (vocals), Tommy Thayer (guitar), Jeff Warner (guitar), Patrick Young (bass), and Peter Holmes (drums). They made a significant move to Los Angeles in 1982, which paved the way for their self-titled debut album on Geffen Records in 1984. Despite releasing a series of albums throughout the decade, the band disbanded in 1989 after not achieving major commercial success. However, their influence in the glam rock scene remains notable.
How to Sound Like Black 'N Blue
Black 'N Blue's sound is characterized by high-energy guitar riffs and anthemic choruses, capturing the essence of the 1980s glam metal scene. Their music features crunchy, distorted guitar tones and melodic solos, often driven by the powerful combination of Tommy Thayer's Gibson Flying V "Steel Rocket" Electric Guitar and Gibson Custom Shop '59 Les Paul Standard. Amplified through Hughes & Kettner equipment, including the Tommy Thayer Signature Duotone amp head, their sound delivers a punchy and dynamic performance that is both aggressive and polished. The rhythm section provides a solid backbone, complementing the soaring vocals with tight bass lines and pounding drums, creating a vibrant and quintessentially '80s rock atmosphere.
