About
Bang Tango is an American rock band that emerged from the vibrant Los Angeles music scene in the late 1980s. Known for their unique blend of funk rock, glam metal, and alternative metal, the original lineup consisted of Joe Lesté (vocals), Kyle Stevens (guitar), Mark Knight (guitar), Kyle Kyle (bass), and Tigg Ketler (drums). While often associated with the glam metal movement of the time, Bang Tango set themselves apart by incorporating funk influences into their sound, drawing comparisons to contemporaries like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Faith No More. Despite achieving some recognition with their debut album Psycho Cafe, the band struggled to maintain mainstream success as musical trends shifted in the early '90s.
How to Sound Like Bang Tango
Bang Tango’s sound is characterized by energetic, groove-laden guitar riffs that sit at the intersection of funk and hard rock. The guitars often have a sharp, biting tone that cuts through the mix, achieved with the use of classic Gibson Les Pauls known for their rich sustain and powerful output. Their rhythm section is equally dynamic, with bass lines that bring a funky, fluid undertone, reminiscent of the era's funk-metal fusion. Drums, often utilizing kits like the Pearl Reference Series, deliver a punchy yet intricate rhythm that complements the band's vibrant, high-energy style. To capture Bang Tango's eclectic vibe, musicians should focus on blending crisp guitar tones with funk-infused rhythms and dynamic drum patterns.
