About
Black Stone Cherry is an American rock band hailing from Edmonton, Kentucky, blending elements of Southern rock, hard rock, post-grunge, and alternative metal. Formed in 2001, the group consists of Chris Robertson (vocals, guitar), Ben Wells (guitar, backing vocals), Jon Lawhon (bass, backing vocals), and John Fred Young (drums). Known for their powerful dynamics and emotionally charged lyrics, Black Stone Cherry has carved out a niche with their robust sound and energetic live performances, drawing influences from classic rock and modern hard rock alike.
How to Sound Like Black Stone Cherry
Black Stone Cherry's sound is characterized by aggressive guitar riffs and thunderous drumming, creating a raw, high-energy atmosphere. Their music often features dirty, riff-heavy guitar tones achieved through the use of gear like the Gibson Les Paul Classic combined with the powerful Budda Superdrive 45 Series II amp heads. The rhythmic intensity is further enhanced by the use of fuzz pedals such as the Way Huge Electronics Swollen Pickle MKII Jumbo Fuzz, adding a gritty texture to their sound. Complemented by booming drum work using DW Drums, the band creates a sonic landscape that is both forceful and deeply emotive, inviting listeners into a cathartic musical experience.
