About
bôa is a British alternative rock band that emerged from the vibrant London music scene in 1992. The group originally featured Ed Herten (drums), Paul Turrell (keyboard/strings), Steve Rodgers (guitar/vocals), Alex Caird (bass guitar), Jasmine Rodgers (guitar/vocals), and Ben Henderson (guitar/saxophone). After some lineup changes, Lee Sullivan joined as the drummer.
Over their career, bôa has released four studio albums, The Race of a Thousand Camels (1998, reissued as Twilight in 2001 with adisional songs), Get There (2005) and Whiplash (2024). After a period of inactivity, the band reformed with a lineup consisting of Jasmine Rodgers, Alex Caird, and Lee Sullivan.
Before "The Race of a Thousand Camels" they wanted to release the album "The Farm", which we heard only after it was leaked in 2017.
Known for their captivating track "Duvet," which gained significant popularity as the opening theme for the anime series Serial Experiments Lain, bôa continues to resonate with fans of alternative and indie rock.
How to Sound Like bôa
bôa's sound is characterized by its melodic and textured guitar work, which is both dynamic and introspective. The interplay between clean and overdriven tones is a hallmark of their music, often achieved through the use of effects like the Boss BD-2W Blues Driver Waza Craft and Boss SD-1 Super OverDrive. This combination results in a sound that is both dreamy and assertive, creating a lush backdrop for Jasmine Rodgers' evocative vocals. The use of Fender guitars, such as the Fender Vintera '60s Modified HH Jaguar, further enhances their rich, harmonic textures. Meanwhile, the rhythmic foundation laid by Alex Caird on bass, often through gear like the Gallien-Krueger NEO 112, provides a driving yet melodic underpinning, complementing the band's layered soundscapes.
