About
Brkovi is a Croatian band known for their eclectic fusion of punk rock and turbofolk, creating a unique sound that defies conventional genre boundaries. Originating from Zagreb in 2004, the band was formed by members of the dissolved groups Antifrik and Abrakha-dub-r. The lineup solidified with the addition of Shamso 69 (vocals) in 2007, along with other members contributing to instruments like guitar, bass, and drums. Brkovi's music is characterized by a blend of punk energy, hard rock riffs, and traditional folk melodies, often described as "shepherd’s rock." Their unconventional style reflects the juxtaposition of rural and urban influences found in ex-Yugoslavian pop culture.
How to Sound Like Brkovi
Brkovi's sound is marked by a raucous yet melodic energy, combining the raw intensity of punk with the narrative depth of folk. The guitar work often features folk-inspired melodies, played with a gritty edge that nods to punk and metal influences. This is achieved through the use of distortion and overdrive pedals, adding a punchy, aggressive layer to their sound. The band’s use of traditional instruments alongside electric guitars creates a dynamic contrast that is both rustic and contemporary. The rhythm section drives the music with a steady, propulsive force, anchoring the folk-punk hybrid sound that defines Brkovi's innovative approach.
