About

Chastain is a powerhouse in the American underground metal scene, renowned for its dynamic blend of speed metal, power metal, and heavy metal. Originating from Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1984, the band was the brainchild of prolific guitarist David T. Chastain. The original lineup featured the commanding vocals of Leather Leone, bassist Mike Skimmerhorn, and drummer Fred Coury, who was later succeeded by Ken Mary and others. Over the years, Chastain has seen various lineup changes but consistently maintained its intense, riff-driven sound, with a roster that has included talents like drummer Stian Kristoffersen and vocalist Kate French.

How to Sound Like Chastain

Chastain's sound is characterized by aggressive, high-energy guitar riffs and piercing solos, a testament to David T. Chastain's virtuosic playing. The band's sonic profile is both raw and powerful, with a gritty edge that combines intricate melodies with relentless rhythms. Guitars like the Kramer Baretta and B.C. Rich Warlock Widow lend themselves to the band’s heavy, cutting tone, while the Marshall JCM800 2203 amp head provides the necessary crunch and sustain that define their sound. Drumming is tight and thunderous, with DW Drums and Zildjian cymbals adding a sharp, driving force that complements the guitar work. This combination of technical prowess and raw intensity is what makes Chastain's music a staple in the metal genre.
