About
Citizen Zero is a hard-hitting modern rock quartet hailing from Detroit, Michigan. Formed in 2010 in Rochester Hills, the band originally consisted of siblings Greg Dudley (bass), John Dudley (drums), Matt Dudley (guitar), and vocalist Josh Mayle. Following a tragic loss and lineup changes, the band evolved to include Sammy Boller (guitar) and Sam Collins (bass), alongside John Dudley and Josh Mayle. Citizen Zero is known for their blend of honest rock & roll with arena-ready alternative rock and post-grunge influences, drawing comparisons to bands like Stone Temple Pilots and Kings of Leon. They gained acclaim with their debut album State of Mind, which features powerful singles like "Go (Let Me Save You)".
How to Sound Like Citizen Zero
Citizen Zero's sound is characterized by its robust and dynamic rock energy, combining gritty guitar riffs with soaring vocals and driving rhythms. Their music balances the raw intensity of post-grunge with melodic hooks, creating a sound that is both aggressive and accessible. Sammy Boller's guitar work often employs the Friedman BE-100 amplifier, delivering the powerful, saturated tones that define their sound. The use of the Empress Compressor adds clarity and punch to the guitar lines, while the Two Notes Torpedo Captor X helps in achieving their polished studio sound by capturing the depth and nuance of their live performances. The rhythm section provides a solid, unwavering backbone, ensuring each track is tightly knit yet expansive, embodying the raw, anthemic spirit of modern rock.
