About

Covenant is a Swedish electronic band known for their unique blend of synthpop, futurepop, and dark wave. Originating from Helsingborg, Sweden, the group was formed in the late 1980s by Eskil Simonsson (vocals, synths), Joakim Montelius (synths, programming), and Clas Nachmanson (synths, until 2007). Over the years, they have become a staple in the electronic music scene, with their sound evolving to incorporate elements of industrial, cyberpunk, and dark electro. The lineup shifted to include Daniel Myer and Andreas Catjar, each contributing to the band’s evolving musical landscape. Covenant is celebrated for their atmospheric and introspective soundscapes that often delve into themes of technology and existentialism.

How to Sound Like Covenant

Covenant’s music is characterized by dark, atmospheric synth layers and driving electronic beats, creating a sound that is both melodic and rhythmic. Their compositions often feature crisp, precise electronic textures that evoke a sense of futurism and introspection. The use of synthesizers like the Waldorf Q and Clavia Nord Modular G2X adds a distinctive, rich timbre to their music, allowing for both expansive ambient sounds and sharp, punchy leads. Rhythmic and hypnotic sequences are central to their tracks, often underpinned by complex, layered programming that invites listeners into a reflective and immersive experience. Their sonic palette is further enhanced by the use of MIDI controllers like the Akai MPK Mini Laptop Production Keyboard, which brings a tactile element to their live performances, emphasizing the seamless integration of technology and artistry in their work.
