About
Covet is an American instrumental rock band originating from the Bay Area, California, known for their intricate blend of post-rock, math rock, and midwest emo. Formed in 2014 by the innovative guitarist Yvette Young, the group initially included bassist David Adamiak and various drummers over time, with the current lineup featuring Jessica Burdeaux on drums. Yvette Young's background in classical piano and her distinctive two-handed tapping technique on the guitar define the band's exploratory sound, which has been described as "emotional nerd rock." Covet's compositions are characterized by complex song structures and intricate melodies, captivating a devoted following with albums like Technicolor and Catharsis.
How to Sound Like Covet
Covet's sound is marked by clean, melodic guitar lines that weave through intricate rhythmic patterns, creating an ethereal yet dynamic listening experience. Yvette Young's use of a Vox AC15 amplifier delivers a warm, crystal-clear tone that complements her finger-tapping style. The incorporation of effects like the Collision Devices Black Hole Symmetry enhances the band's ambient textures, adding depth and dimension to their compositions. Rhythmic complexity is further emphasized by the precise drumming of Jessica Burdeaux, whose use of a Ludwig Universal Black Brass Snare Drum provides a crisp, punchy backbone. Together, these elements create Covet's distinctively intricate and emotive sound.
