About

Darker My Love is a Los Angeles-based group that infuses elements of space rock, psychedelic rock, and neo-psychedelic genres to create a sound both expansive and introspective. Formed in 2001 by high school friends Tim Presley (guitars, vocals) and Andy Granelli (drums), the band was initially a side project before evolving into a full-time pursuit with the addition of Rob Barbato (bass, vocals) and Jared Everett (guitar), both originally from Boston. Over time, the lineup saw changes, with Dan Allaire stepping in on drums. Known for their bright yet brooding sound, Darker My Love has carved a niche with their fuzz-laden, distortion-heavy tracks and melancholic vocal delivery.

How to Sound Like Darker My Love

Darker My Love's sonic landscape is characterized by brooding, fuzz-drenched guitar tones and trippy distortion, creating a sound that is both dense and immersive. Their music often features layers of psychedelic textures that are both aggressive and atmospheric, achieved through a combination of guitars like the Fender Jaguar and Fender Jazzmaster. The fuzz-heavy sound is further defined by the use of pedals like the Electro-Harmonix Sovtek "Green Russian" Big Muff Pi and ZVEX Vexter Series Fuzz Factory, which add a gritty, overdriven edge to their music. The combination of these elements produces a sound that is both raw and richly textured, perfect for those looking to capture the essence of psychedelic rock's darker side.
