About
Eighteen Visions is an American band hailing from Orange County, California, known for their innovative fusion of screamo, post-hardcore, metalcore, mathcore, and melodic metalcore genres. Formed in 1995, the group originally featured James Hart (vocals), Ken Floyd (drums), Javier Van Huss (bass), and guitarists Brandan Schieppati and Keith Barney. Over time, the lineup evolved, with Mick Morris replacing Van Huss on bass. Eighteen Visions made a significant impact on the hardcore scene with their dynamic compositions and charismatic performances, leveraging their flashy image and energetic stage presence to stand out.
How to Sound Like Eighteen Visions
Eighteen Visions' sound is characterized by its aggressive, complex, and rhythmically intricate compositions. Their music often incorporates off-time rhythms and blasting metallic hardcore elements, combining thrash-inspired riffs with moments of melodic groove. To capture their sonic intensity, musicians should focus on achieving a tight, punchy guitar tone with high-gain distortion that retains clarity for intricate riffs. Utilizing fast-paced, dynamic drumming techniques and syncopated rhythms is essential to emulate their driving energy. Additionally, incorporating screaming vocal styles with occasional melodic segments helps replicate the band's distinctive vocal delivery. Employing compression and overdrive effects can enhance the overall aggression and presence in the mix, ensuring the sound remains forceful and cohesive.
