Etran Finatawa is a dynamic musical group originating from Niger, formed in 2004. The ensemble uniquely blends traditional Arab and African music, drawing from the rich cultural heritage of the Tuareg and Wodaabe nomadic groups. Typically comprising between six and ten members, the band has featured musicians such as Alhousseini Mohamed Anivolla, Bammo Agonla, Bagui Bouga, Ghalitane Khamidoune, Zaid Ag Abdoul Jamil, and Mamane Tankari. Etran Finatawa's soundscape is a fusion of desert blues, afropop, and griot music, with the Tuareg members primarily handling string instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, and percussion. Their music is characterized by the 'ichumar' style, while the Wodaabe contribute with vocals in Fulfulde and Tamasheck languages, using calabasse drums to enhance their rhythmic and melodic storytelling.
