About

Falkenbach is a unique black metal project hailing from Düsseldorf, Germany, spearheaded by multi-instrumentalist Vratyas Vakyas. Initially a solo endeavor, Falkenbach blends elements of black metal, folk metal, and Viking metal, delivering a sound rich with epic and medieval themes. While Vratyas manages most instruments and vocals, he has occasionally collaborated with musicians like Tyrann (vocals), Hagalaz (guitar), and Bolthorn (drums) for specific projects, adding depth and variety to the compositions. Active since 1995, Falkenbach’s music reflects a deep connection to folklore and mythology, often incorporating elements of Nordic and Icelandic musical traditions.

How to Sound Like Falkenbach

Falkenbach's sonic landscape is characterized by a blend of aggressive and melodic elements, often achieved through the use of layered guitar arrangements and atmospheric keyboards. The guitar tone is typically driven and raw, yet balanced by the melodic textures of folk-inspired acoustic passages. To capture this sound, musicians might use distortion pedals for heavier sections and acoustic guitars to replicate the folk elements. The keyboards add a rich, epic quality, often emulating orchestral and choral textures, which can be approximated with synthesizers and digital workstations. The music's dynamic nature is further enhanced by powerful drumming, employing both fast-paced blast beats and more rhythmic, tribal patterns to echo the project's Viking themes. To emulate Falkenbach’s expansive sound, musicians should focus on blending these varied textures, ensuring each element contributes to the overall mythic and atmospheric vibe.
