About
Fashion is an eclectic post-punk band originating from Birmingham, England, in 1978. Initially formed as Fàshiön Music, the group originally comprised John Mulligan (bass, synthesizer), Dik Davis (drums), and Luke Sky (lead vocals, guitar). Known for their genre-blending style, Fashion's music seamlessly transitions between post-punk, electronica, and reggae, creating a distinctive sound that set them apart during the vibrant late '70s and early '80s music scene. Over the years, Fashion supported and toured with iconic bands such as The Police, The B-52s, and U2, solidifying their place in the annals of post-punk history.
How to Sound Like Fashion
Fashion's sound is characterized by its dynamic and versatile sonic palette, which thrives on the fusion of electronic and organic elements. The band's music often features synth-driven textures and rhythmic bass lines, creating a tight yet fluid foundation for their tracks. The use of synthesizers adds an ethereal layer that enhances their post-punk edge, while the bass guitar brings warmth and depth, often with the help of gear like the Wal Pro2E bass. The interplay between electronic and traditional instruments is further enhanced by the crisply articulated drum patterns, which provide a sense of urgency and drive. Effects such as the TC Electronic Hall Of Fame Reverb and TC Electronic Corona Chorus contribute to the lush, atmospheric quality of their music, allowing Fashion to craft a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
