About

Kajagoogoo is a British new wave band celebrated for their infectious melodies and distinctively sleek style. Emerging from Leighton Buzzard, England, in 1979, the group originally performed as Art Nouveau before reinventing themselves as Kajagoogoo. The band comprises Nick Beggs (bass, vocals), Limahl (lead vocals), Steve Askew (guitar), Stuart Neale (keyboards), and Jez Strode (drums). Known for their catchy synth-pop hooks, Kajagoogoo achieved worldwide fame with their chart-topping 1983 hit "Too Shy," featured on their debut album White Feathers. Their sound, polished and vibrant, remains a defining element of the 1980s new wave scene, despite lineup changes and subsequent shifts towards more experimental music.

How to Sound Like Kajagoogoo

Kajagoogoo's sound is characterized by its bright, melodic synth lines and crisp, rhythmic guitar work, creating an upbeat and polished pop aesthetic. The band's music often blends rich, layered keyboard textures with punchy bass lines, a synergy that can be attributed to the use of gear like the Yamaha CP-70 Electric Grand Piano for its resonant tones, and the Wal Pro2E bass for its distinctive clarity and punch. The clean, articulate guitar tones produced by Steve Askew's Epiphone Casino contribute to the band's signature sound, which is both melodic and danceable. Kajagoogoo's music thrives on its synth-driven energy and fashion-forward ethos, making their tunes an enduring emblem of the new wave era.
