About

Gabriels is a Los Angeles-based musical trio renowned for their innovative blend of retro soul, gospel, doo wop, funk, and disco. Formed by Jacob Lusk (vocals), Ari Balouzian (producer), and Ryan Hope (producer), the group brings a unique fusion of past and future sounds, with Lusk's church-honed, expressive voice leading their avant-R&B style. The members initially connected while working on a commercial in 2016 and began crafting music together, eventually gaining recognition with their EPs Love and Hate in a Different Time and Bloodline, as well as their full-length album Angels & Queens.

How to Sound Like Gabriels

Gabriels' sound is characterized by its rich, layered vocal harmonies and deeply emotive melodies, which are complemented by a backdrop of lush orchestration and vintage-inspired production. The group often incorporates analogue synth textures and classic R&B rhythms, giving their music a timeless yet modern feel. To approximate their sonic landscape, musicians might focus on using warm, soulful vocal effects and dynamic, live instrumentation. The use of classic electric pianos, brass elements, and subtle rhythmic grooves can enhance the retro soul vibe, while analog delay and reverb effects can add depth and atmosphere to the overall mix, reflecting the trio's ability to bridge eras and genres seamlessly.
