About
Giraffe Tongue Orchestra is a supergroup that merges the expansive sounds of alternative metal and progressive rock. Originating from a mix of renowned bands, this ensemble features Ben Weinman (guitar) from The Dillinger Escape Plan, Brent Hinds (guitar) from Mastodon, William Duvall (vocals) from Alice in Chains, Pete Griffin (bass) from Dethklok, and Thomas Pridgen (drums) from The Mars Volta. The collaboration initially began with Weinman and Hinds, who envisioned a fresh, genre-blending project that would eventually culminate in their dynamic debut album, Broken Lines.
How to Sound Like Giraffe Tongue Orchestra
Giraffe Tongue Orchestra crafts a sound that is both aggressive and intricate, characterized by sharp, complex riffs and soaring, emotive vocals. Their music often weaves intense guitar layers with rhythmic precision, creating a vibrant yet controlled chaos. To replicate their expansive sound, Brent Hinds' use of the Gibson Custom Silverburst Flying V delivers the raw edge required for their heavy riffs, while the Mesa/Boogie Mark V 90-Watt Tube Head provides the powerful, versatile tones needed for both clean and distorted passages. The drums, courtesy of Pridgen, add a dynamic and propulsive undercurrent, completing the band's robust and eclectic sonic landscape.
