About
Heartsounds is a dynamic musical group originating from San Francisco, California, known for their energetic blend of pop punk, skate punk, and melodic hardcore. Formed in 2009 by Laura Nichol (guitar, vocals) and Ben Murray (guitar, vocals), Heartsounds emerged from the ashes of their previous death metal project, Light This City. Their lineup expanded with the addition of Kyle Camarillo (bass) and Trey Derbes (drums), further enriching their sound. Drawing inspiration from the punk rock bands of the '80s and '90s, Heartsounds delivers fast-paced melodies intertwined with intricate vocal harmonies, capturing the essence of the genres they admire.
How to Sound Like Heartsounds
Heartsounds’ music is characterized by fast, melodic guitar riffs that blend raw punk energy with precise, metal-influenced technique. Their sound is both aggressive and melodic, utilizing dual vocal harmonies that create a dynamic contrast, often employing a call-and-response style. Guitarists might aim for crisp, overdriven tones through the use of distortion pedals and high-gain amplifiers to capture their lively sound. The rhythm section is tight and driving, with punchy bass lines that lock in with energetic drum patterns, giving the music a relentless forward momentum. To emulate Heartsounds’ style, focus on maintaining clarity and speed in your playing, while emphasizing melodic interplay and vocal intensity.
