About
Hell Is For Heroes is a British post-hardcore band formed in London in 2000. The group features Justin Schlosberg (vocals), Will McGonagle (guitar), Tom O'Donohue (guitar), Joe Birch (drums), and James Finlay (bass). Emerging from the dissolution of the band Symposium, Hell Is For Heroes quickly established themselves with a sound that blends the intensity of post-hardcore with the melodic sensibilities of British alternative rock. Their debut album, The Neon Handshake, received critical acclaim and showcased their ability to merge aggressive rhythms with anthemic choruses, setting them apart in the UK rock scene.
How to Sound Like Hell Is For Heroes
Hell Is For Heroes' sound is characterized by its dynamic, high-energy guitar work and powerful vocal delivery. Their music often features distorted, layered guitar riffs that create a wall of sound, interspersed with moments of melodic clarity. Achieving this requires a combination of overdrive and distortion pedals to push the guitars into aggressive territory while maintaining clarity. Tube amps can provide the warm, organic distortion that underpins their heavier tracks. Vocals are delivered with raw intensity, often doubled or harmonized to add depth. The rhythm section drives the energy forward, with tight, punchy bass lines and hard-hitting drum patterns that anchor their sound. For musicians looking to capture their style, focusing on the interplay between melodic and dissonant elements, as well as the use of effects like reverb and delay to enhance the spatial dynamics, is key.
