About
Reuben is a British alternative rock and post-hardcore trio known for their raw energy and dynamic blend of metal and punk influences. Originating from Camberley, Surrey, the group was formed in 1998 by lifelong friends Jamie Lenman (vocals, guitar) and Jon Pierce (bass). After several lineup changes, Guy Davis became the permanent drummer, solidifying the ensemble's powerful rhythm section. Reuben's music is characterized by intense, emotive vocals and intricate guitar work, making them a standout act in the UK post-hardcore scene. Over their career, they've released multiple albums, including their debut Racecar Is Racecar Backwards, and have gained a dedicated following for their uncompromising sound and DIY ethic.
How to Sound Like Reuben
Reuben’s sound is both aggressive and melodic, weaving intricate guitar riffs with a gritty, driving rhythm section. Their guitar tones often balance between clean, articulate melodies and heavy, distorted riffs, achieved through the use of gear like the Yamaha RGX and Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH. Amplifiers such as the Laney LV300 Twin deliver the punchy, saturated tones that underpin their music. The band's use of dynamic shifts and occasional octave effects, like those from the Electro-Harmonix Micro POG, contribute to their distinctive, high-energy sound. Drumming that alternates between thunderous beats and intricate rhythms complements the guitar work, creating a soundscape that is both chaotic and tightly controlled.
