About

His Hero Is Gone was a pivotal American band that emerged from the underground punk scene of Memphis, Tennessee. Known for their intense blend of hardcore punk, sludge metal, grindcore, powerviolence, crust punk, thrash core, and neo-crust, they were active in the late 1990s. The group consisted of Todd Burdette (guitar, vocals), Paul Burdette (drums), Carl Auge (bass, vocals), Yannick Lorrain (guitar), and Pat Davis (guitar, vocals). Their politically charged lyrics and abrasive sound positioned them as a voice against globalization, urban policing, and cultural alienation, leaving a lasting impact on the D.I.Y. punk community. Despite their relatively short existence, they released influential records like 15 Counts of Arson and Monuments to Thieves, before members went on to form the band Tragedy.

How to Sound Like His Hero is Gone

His Hero Is Gone's sound is characterized by its aggressive, raw intensity and thick, disharmonic guitar tones. This abrasive sonic landscape was often achieved using gear like the ESP LTD EC-401 and the Gibson SG Special Electric Guitar, which were complemented by the Pro Co RAT for distortion. Amplification through powerful setups such as the Peavey 6505+ 120-Watt Tube Guitar Amp Head and Orange PPC412 Guitar Speaker Cabinet contributed to their dense, heavy sound. Their music often features relentless, pounding rhythms with a dark, brooding edge, making use of sludgy, overdriven bass and rhythm guitar to create an immersive and intense auditory experience.
