About
HUNNY is a Californian indie pop and modern rock band known for their unique blend of new-wave sheen, shoegaze gloom, and angular guitar rock. Formed by childhood friends, the group features Jason Yarger (vocals), Jake Goldstein (guitar), Kevin Grimmett (bass, keys), and Joey Anderson (drums). HUNNY's music captures a cheeky, California cool sensibility while drawing on influences from various genres, including indie pop and modern alternative rock. The band gained initial attention with their self-released 2015 EP, Pain / Ache / Loving, and have continued to evolve their sound with subsequent releases.
How to Sound Like HUNNY
HUNNY's sound is characterized by its vibrant, energetic guitar lines and lush, atmospheric textures. Their music often features clean, melodic guitar tones, accentuated by the use of effects like reverb and delay to create a dreamy yet punchy sonic landscape. The Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier is a staple in their setup, known for its pristine clean sound and rich chorusing effect, which complements the band's guitar-driven approach. Layered synths and dynamic bass lines add depth to their compositions, while the drums maintain a driving yet laid-back feel, contributing to their infectious, danceable rhythm. This combination of elements allows HUNNY to deliver a sound that is both polished and raw, capturing the essence of modern indie rock with a distinctly Californian vibe.
