About

Vinyl Theatre is an energetic pop rock band originating from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, blending elements of modern rock, indie pop, and electronic dance music. Formed in 2012, the band initially featured Keegan Calmes (vocals, guitar), Chris Senner (keyboards, backing vocals), Josh Pothier (bass, backing vocals), and Nick Cesarz (drums). Influenced by the '80s post-punk era, their sound has drawn comparisons to bands like The Killers and Death Cab for Cutie. Although Pothier departed before the release of their second album, Vinyl Theatre continued to evolve their sound, incorporating more prominent guitar work in their music.

How to Sound Like Vinyl Theatre

Vinyl Theatre creates a vibrant, melodic sonic landscape characterized by driving rhythms and shimmering synth textures. Their music often features a clean, polished sound with an upbeat, hopeful energy. To achieve this, Keegan Calmes utilizes the Fender Lee Ranaldo Signature Jazzmaster, delivering bright, jangly guitar tones that complement the band's lively atmosphere. Chris Senner adds depth with the rich, versatile sounds of the Roland Fantom G8 Workstation, providing lush synth layers that underpin the band's dynamic arrangements. The rhythmic backbone, driven by Nick Cesarz's precise drumming and electronic elements like the Roland SPD-SX Sampling Pad, ensures a tight, cohesive performance that encourages movement and engagement from their listeners.
