About

Invalids is an innovative music project originating from New Jersey, blending genres such as post-rock, math rock, mathcore, and midwest emo. Initially started in 2008 as a solo endeavor by Pete Davis, who handled guitars, vocals, and programmed drums, the project evolved into a full band for live performances. The live lineup includes Joe Scala on drums, Raymond Bonanno on bass, and Blair Benzel on guitar, bringing Davis's intricate compositions to life on stage. The band's music is an intricate tapestry of complex rhythms and emotive melodies, appealing to fans of both instrumental math rock and indie.

How to Sound Like Invalids

Invalids' sonic character is defined by intricate, clean guitar lines interwoven with complex rhythmic structures and dynamic shifts, creating a sound that is both melodic and technically challenging. Achieving this involves utilizing highly articulate guitar tones, often with bright, clear distortion that retains note clarity, typical of math rock. The use of digital and analog delay pedals enhances the intricate guitar work, adding layers and depth to the compositions. Drumming patterns are precise and dynamic, often employing unconventional time signatures and polyrhythms to drive the music forward. Bass lines provide a solid, melodic foundation, intertwining with the guitars to create a cohesive and engaging sound. To capture Invalids' essence, focus on maintaining clarity and precision in your playing, while embracing the complexity and emotive nature of their arrangements.
