About
Tangled Hair is an English math rock and midwest emo band renowned for their intricate rhythms and emotive compositions. The group was formed by Alan Welsh (guitar, vocals) and James Trood (drums), both former members of the underground math-rock band Colour. They were joined by Alex Lloyd (bass) to complete the trio. Known for their complex time signatures and melodic interplay, Tangled Hair's sound is a blend of math pop sensibilities with the emotional depth of midwest emo, evident in releases like their First EP and debut album We Do What We Can.
How to Sound Like Tangled Hair
Tangled Hair's music is characterized by clean, intricate guitar work paired with dynamic and rhythmic drumming. To capture their sound, focus on achieving a bright, articulate guitar tone that can navigate complex chord progressions and finger-tapped melodies. Utilizing analog delay pedals and light reverb can enhance the clarity and depth of the guitar, while tube amps can provide warmth and presence. The bass lines complement the guitar's complexity with a tight, punchy tone that remains defined in the mix. Drummers aiming for Tangled Hair's style should emphasize precision and versatility, mastering shifts in time signature and tempo while maintaining a tight, propulsive groove. Attention to arrangement and interplay between instruments is key, as the band thrives on the seamless integration of their musical parts.
