About

Isole is a Swedish metal band renowned for their brooding and atmospheric soundscapes that traverse the realms of progressive metal, doom metal, and gothic metal. Originally formed as Forlorn in 1990 by Crister Olsson (guitar, vocals) and Daniel Bryntse (guitar, vocals), the band underwent several transformations before solidifying their identity as Isole in 2003. The lineup was further stabilized by the inclusion of Jonas Lindström (drums, until his departure) and Henrik Lindenmo (bass, until his departure), with Jimmy Mattsson (bass) and Victor Parri (drums) joining in later years. Isole's music is marked by its epic and melancholic themes, delivering a rich blend of drone metal, funeral doom, and neo-trad doom metal influences.

How to Sound Like Isole

Isole's sonic character is defined by heavy, immersive guitar riffs that create a dense, melancholic atmosphere. These are often achieved using high-gain amplifiers paired with down-tuned guitars, offering a deep, resonant tone that perfectly complements the band's doom-laden aesthetic. The guitars are layered with modulation and reverb effects, adding a haunting, ethereal quality to their sound. Isole's compositions often feature slow, deliberate tempos with powerful, sustained chords that emphasize the weight and gravity of their music. The rhythmic drumming provides a dynamic yet restrained backbone, allowing the intricate guitar work and somber vocal harmonies to take center stage. To capture the essence of Isole's sound, musicians should focus on creating a balance between heavy, crushing riffs and atmospheric, melodic elements, ensuring both emotional depth and sonic power.
