About

Keel is a hard rock and glam metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1984 by vocalist Ron Keel after his stint with Steeler. The original lineup included Marc Ferrari and Bryan Jay on guitars, Kenny Chaisson on bass, and Dwain Miller on drums. Known for their high-energy performances and anthemic sound, Keel quickly made a name for themselves in the 1980s rock scene. Their style blends elements of hard rock, glam metal, and AOR, borrowing from the theatricality of glam rock and the driving force of classic metal. The band gained significant attention with albums like The Right to Rock, produced by Gene Simmons of Kiss, and The Final Frontier.

How to Sound Like Keel

Keel's sound is characterized by its aggressive yet melodic guitar work, often employing the use of guitar harmonies and riff-driven progressions that are quintessential to the glam metal genre. The dual guitar attack of Marc Ferrari and Bryan Jay is complemented by the thick, resonant tones of the Peavey VTM-120, delivering a gritty yet polished edge. Their music balances anthemic choruses and soaring vocals from Ron Keel, supported by a rhythm section that maintains a powerful, driving beat. The band's compositions often utilize synthesizers like the Roland Jupiter-80, adding layers of texture and depth, enhancing their dynamic range without overshadowing the core guitar-centric sound. This blend of instrumentation creates a robust and energetic vibe, perfect for capturing the essence of 80s hard rock and glam metal.
