About

Kingston Wall was a Finnish rock band celebrated for their progressive and psychedelic rock sound, infused with elements of space rock. Formed in Helsinki in 1987, the group consisted of Petri Walli (vocals, guitar), Jukka Jylli (bass), and Sami Kuoppamäki (drums). Known for their inventive compositions, Kingston Wall drew inspiration from legendary acts like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, yet carved out a distinct identity with Eastern influences and mythological themes. Despite their short-lived career, the band left a lasting impact on the Finnish rock scene with albums like II and III Tri-Logy.

How to Sound Like Kingston Wall

Kingston Wall's sound is characterized by dynamic and textured guitar work, courtesy of Petri Walli's masterful use of the Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, which delivers rich, warm tones perfect for their expansive soundscapes. Their music often features psychedelic and atmospheric elements, driven by lush, reverberant effects that create a sense of vastness and depth. Walli's use of the Marshall JMP 2203 Mk II Master Lead 100w amplifier adds a powerful, vintage edge to their sound, complementing the fluid bass lines and intricate drum patterns that underpin their compositions. Kingston Wall's ability to blend melodic intricacy with rhythmic complexity makes their music an exploratory journey through rock's more cerebral landscapes.
