Kurban is a pioneering Turkish rock band known for their eclectic blend of rock, Turkish jazz, and Anatolian rock influences. Formed in 1995, the group originally named "Outside" consists of Deniz Yilmaz (vocals, guitar), Burak Gürpinar (drums), Kerem Tüzün (bass guitar), and Özgür Kankaynar (lead guitar), who replaced original member Umut Gokcen. Kurban gained prominence by merging heavy rock riffs with a punk attitude, a style that distinguished them in the Turkish music scene. Their debut album, released in 1999, and subsequent performances, including opening for Metallica, showcased their ability to infuse traditional Turkish elements into a modern rock framework.

Kurban's sound is characterized by aggressive, heavy rock riffs intertwined with melodic Turkish influences, creating a unique sonic landscape. The band's music often features powerful, distorted guitar tones, achieved through the use of guitars like the Gibson Flying V and the Fender Telecaster, paired with the formidable Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier amplifiers. This setup delivers a gritty and robust sound, while the bass lines, provided by Kerem Tüzün using the Wal Mk I Bass, add a deep, resonant foundation that complements the band's dynamic range. The drumming by Burak Gürpinar adds a driving rhythm that anchors the music, balancing the intensity with a touch of Turkish rhythmic flair.
