About

Kylesa is a multifaceted metal band originating from Savannah, Georgia, known for their innovative blend of genres such as doom metal, sludge metal, and stoner rock. Formed in 2001, the group was founded by Phillip Cope (guitar, vocals) and Laura Pleasants (guitar, vocals), alongside the late Brian Duke (bass). Following Duke's passing, Corey Barhorst stepped in as bassist and vocalist. The lineup saw further expansion with the addition of drummers Jeff Porter and Carl McGinley, establishing a double-drumming setup that became a hallmark of their sound. Kylesa's music is characterized by its experimental approach, fusing elements of psychedelic stoner rock with hardcore punk and sludge metal, resulting in a dynamic and varied musical landscape.

How to Sound Like Kylesa

Kylesa's sound is a vivid tapestry of heavy, fuzz-laden guitar riffs and thunderous, dual drumming that creates an aggressive yet hypnotic atmosphere. Their music often features psychedelic and progressive elements, which are enhanced by the use of gear like the Orange Thunderverb 200W for its rich, saturated tones and the Gibson Les Paul Goldtop for its robust, meaty sound. To achieve their swirling, immersive effects, Kylesa incorporates pedals like the Fulltone OCD and Tech 21 Boost D.L.A., which add layers of overdrive and delay, crafting a sound that is both crushing and expansive. Their music is a powerful journey through dense, textural landscapes, driven by rhythm and sonic depth.
