About

Maritime is an American indie rock band that emerged in 2003 from the remnants of beloved bands The Promise Ring and The Dismemberment Plan. Hailing from Washington, D.C. and Milwaukee, the group originally comprised Davey von Bohlen (vocals, guitar), Dan Didier (drums), and Eric Axelson (bass). As the band evolved, Justin Klug (bass) and Dan Hinz (lead guitar) joined the lineup, contributing to a sound that blends emo, indie rock, and punk influences. Maritime is celebrated for its earnest pop sensibility, combining the melodic charm of the Elephant 6 collective with the raw energy of classic punk.

How to Sound Like Maritime

Maritime's sound is characterized by melodic and emotive guitar work, often layered with crisp, jangly tones that underscore von Bohlen's distinctive vocals. Their music balances the earnestness of emo with a catchy, indie rock appeal, driven by the interplay between rhythmic guitar lines and vibrant bass. The use of guitars like the Gibson SG Standard and the Fender American Standard Telecaster contributes to their bright yet gritty sound, while the dynamic drumming of Didier adds an energetic pulse that keeps the compositions both engaging and danceable. This blend of elements results in a sound that is both introspective and immediately accessible, appealing to fans of both indie and punk genres.
