About
Marriages is a dynamic musical trio from Los Angeles, California, known for their moody blend of post-rock, doom metal, and shoegaze. Formed in 2011, the band features Emma Ruth Rundle (vocals, guitar), known for her haunting and atmospheric guitar work, Greg Burns (bass), who brings a deep, resonant undercurrent to the ensemble, and Andrew Clinco (drums), whose powerful and intricate drumming drives the band's complex rhythms. Marriages emerged from the post-rock group Red Sparowes, infusing their music with experimental textures and heavy, dark rock influences.
How to Sound Like Marriages
Marriages' sound is characterized by its dense, layered guitar tones and an atmospheric yet heavy sonic landscape. The use of extended range guitars like the Fender Jaguar Baritone contributes to this enveloping depth. Emma Ruth Rundle's preference for the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amp adds a crystalline clarity to their expansive sound, complemented by the fuzz-laden grit of pedals such as the EarthQuaker Devices Dirt Transmitter. The band's music is marked by its contrast between ethereal melodies and a driving, forceful rhythm section, creating a soundscape that is both dreamy and aggressive, ideal for musicians aiming to explore the darker, more atmospheric side of rock.
