About
Metronomy is an English electronic music group renowned for its eclectic blend of indietronica, synth-pop, and alternative dance. The band was formed by Joseph Mount in 1999, initially as a solo project. Over time, Metronomy evolved into a full band, with Joseph Mount (vocals, keyboards, guitar) at the helm, accompanied by Oscar Cash (keyboards, saxophone), Anna Prior (drums, vocals), and Olugbenga Adelekan (bass guitar, vocals). This ensemble has carved out a unique space in the music scene, drawing influences from iconic acts like Devo and David Bowie to create a sound that is both catchy and unpredictable.
How to Sound Like Metronomy
Metronomy’s sound is characterized by its dynamic, melodic synth lines and crisp electronic beats, resulting in a vibe that is simultaneously retro and forward-looking. Their music often features lush, layered textures with a playful edge, achieved through the use of vintage and modern synthesizers such as the Roland Juno-60 and Sequential Circuits Prophet 600. The integration of these synths, alongside the rhythmic foundation laid by bass elements like the Electro-Harmonix Bass Micro Synth XO, gives their music its distinctive electronic pulse. Whether it's the warm, analog synth undertones or the bright, articulate guitar riffs, Metronomy's style thrives on an infectious energy that invites listeners to both dance and reflect.
