About

MU330 is a dynamic ska punk band originating from St. Louis, Missouri, known for their energetic fusion of ska, punk, and elements of traditional ska. Formed in 1988, the band initially brought together a group of high school friends, including Dan Potthast (vocals, guitar), John Skavanaugh (vocals, trumpet), Chris Diebold (bass), Matt Knobbe (saxophone), Matt Struckel (keyboards), and Ted Moll (drums). Over the years, MU330's lineup has evolved, with various members contributing to their unique sound through albums like Press and Crab Rangoon. Despite changes, the core trio of Potthast, Diebold, and Moll remained central to their evolving sound, joined by trombonists Rob Bell and Gerry Lundquist on later projects.

How to Sound Like MU330

MU330's sound is characterized by its high-energy, horn-driven arrangements and a raw, punk-infused edge. The band's music often features tight, upbeat horn sections intertwined with fast-paced, punk guitar riffs. To emulate their style, musicians might focus on brass instruments like trumpets and trombones for powerful, syncopated melodies. The guitar tones typically lean towards a bright, clean sound, often achieved with solid-state amplifiers and minimal effects to maintain clarity and punch. The rhythm section drives the tempo with punchy bass lines and dynamic, snappy drumming, ensuring an infectious groove that is both danceable and rebellious. MU330's ability to blend the lively spirit of ska with the aggressive attitude of punk makes their music both invigorating and timeless.
