Skankin' Pickle was a vibrant ska-punk band hailing from San Francisco, known for their energetic blend of ska rhythms and punk intensity. Formed in 1989, the group consisted of Mike "Bruce Lee" Park (vocals, saxophone), Lynette Knackstedt (guitar), Ian Miller (bass), Lars Nylander (trombone), Gerry Lundquist (trombone), and Chuck Phelps (drums). They were pioneers in the third wave ska movement, renowned for their lively performances and socially conscious lyrics. Throughout their career, they released several influential records, including Skafunkrastapunk and Sing Along with Skankin' Pickle, contributing significantly to the ska-punk genre before disbanding in 1996.

Skankin' Pickle's sound was characterized by its brash, high-energy ska rhythms and punk-infused horn sections, creating a lively and infectious musical atmosphere. The interplay between the punchy horns and driving guitar riffs provided a distinctive texture that defined their style. Bassist Ian Miller's use of the Washburn Vulture Bass and Ampeg SVT-II amplifier setup delivered a powerful low-end presence, crucial for underpinning their dynamic arrangements.
