About

Nightlands blends elements of dreamy psych-pop, soft rock, and prog rock, crafting a sound that is both experimental and nostalgic. Hartley, who is the primary driving force behind Nightlands, occasionally collaborates with members from The War on Drugs and other artists. The project is noted for its innovative use of processed vocals, often adopting unique personas that add a distinctive character to their music.
How to Sound Like Nightlands
Nightlands’ sound is defined by its ethereal and exploratory nature, characterized by lush, layered textures and a penchant for expansive sonic landscapes. This dreamy quality is often highlighted by Hartley's use of the Teenage Engineering OP-1 Portable Synthesizer, which provides a versatile foundation for crafting intricate soundscapes. The incorporation of the Walrus Audio MAKO Series R1 High-Fidelity Stereo Reverb enhances the ambient and atmospheric elements, creating an enveloping audio experience. Hartley's use of the MXR M101 Phase 90 adds a dynamic, swirling motion to the music, contributing to its fluid and immersive quality. Together, these elements form a sound that is both richly textured and emotionally resonant, inviting listeners to lose themselves in the intricate layers of Nightlands' music.
