Nine Horses Members, Gear & Sound

Nine Horses was an experimental music project formed by the collaborative minds of David Sylvian, Steve Jansen, and Burnt Friedman. Emerging from the cross-pollination of alternative rock, art rock, and art pop, the group is known for its intricate blend of electronic textures and moody atmospheres. David Sylvian, a former frontman of Japan, brought his ethereal vocals and multi-instrumental prowess to the mix, while Steve Jansen, also from Japan, contributed his distinctive percussive sensibilities. German electronic musician Burnt Friedman infused the project with his avant-garde production techniques, creating a sound that is both challenging and accessible.

Nine Horses' music is characterized by its layered, ambient soundscapes and textural depth. Their compositions often weave together clean, melodic guitar lines, as exemplified by Sylvian's use of the Fender Stratocaster, with lush electronic elements. Effects processors like the Zoom 9030 and the Yamaha SPX90 II play a crucial role in crafting their expansive sonic palette, adding layers of reverb and modulation that envelop the listener in a rich auditory experience.
