About
Obtained Enslavement is a Norwegian black metal band renowned for their symphonic elements and dark, atmospheric soundscapes. Formed in 1989, the group initially consisted of Pest (vocals, bass), Døden (guitar), and Torquemada (drums). They later expanded with Heks (guitar, keyboards), solidifying their lineup for their debut album, Centuries of Sorrow. As their sound evolved, additional members like keyboardist Morrigan and bassists Tortur and T. Reaper contributed to their complex arrangements, especially on the acclaimed albums Witchcraft and Soulblight. Known for blending raw black metal with symphonic and occult elements, their music captures a unique niche in the genre.
How to Sound Like Obtained Enslavement
Obtained Enslavement's music is characterized by its dark, atmospheric textures and symphonic layers. To emulate their sound, focus on achieving a raw yet expansive sonic palette. This involves using high-gain distortion for guitar tones that maintain clarity alongside their aggressive edge. Incorporating symphonic keyboard arrangements can add a haunting, orchestral dimension, while layered guitar harmonies contribute to their grand, foreboding atmosphere. The use of reverb and delay effects can help recreate the cavernous, immersive soundscapes that define their work. Drums should be both powerful and dynamic, driving the music forward with intensity, yet allowing space for the intricate arrangements to breathe.
