About
Rebel Meets Rebel is a unique collaboration that merges the raw energy of groove metal with the storytelling flair of outlaw country. Formed by the legendary country singer-songwriter David Allan Coe and members of Pantera's rhythm section — Vinnie Paul Abbott (drums), Rex Brown (bass), and Dimebag Darrell Abbott (guitar) — the band creates a dynamic fusion of divergent genres. This powerhouse group came together in the late 1990s, with their recordings spanning several years before culminating in a single, self-titled album. The result is a bold, genre-defying project that captures the rebellious spirit of its creators.
How to Sound Like Rebel Meets Rebel
The sound of Rebel Meets Rebel is an electrifying blend of gritty, southern rock grooves and aggressive metal riffs, creating a sonic landscape that is both powerful and unconventional. Dimebag Darrell’s guitar work stands out with its heavy, distorted tones often achieved through his use of the Randall Warhead 2CH 300 Watt Amp Head and MXR ZW44 Zakk Wylde Overdrive. This combination delivers a thick, driving sound that complements the deep, resonant bass lines of Rex Brown, which can be enhanced using devices like the MXR M-181 Bass Blowtorch Distortion. Vinnie Paul’s drumming provides a solid, hard-hitting backdrop, characterized by the explosive impact of the Sabian 19" AA Rock Crash. Together, these elements forge a sound that is both rebellious and cohesive, inviting musicians to explore the intersection of metal's intensity and country’s narrative depth.
